The 2014 John Snow Anaesthesia Intercalated BSc Awards

The National Institute of Academic Anaesthesia (NIAA) is pleased to announce details for the 2014 John Snow Anaesthesia Intercalated BSc Awards, funded by the Association of Anaesthetists of Great Britain & Ireland (AAGBI)/Anaesthesia, the British Journal of Anaesthesia (BJA)/Royal College of Anaesthetists (RCoA) and the Obstetric Anaesthetists' Association (OAA).

  • The scheme has been designed to capture medical student interest in anaesthetics and its related disciplines
  • The awards are for £2,000 per student and up to 16 awards will be available
  • Each institution can submit a maximum of 4 applications so some coordination between supervisors will be required
  • Awards go to the student and not the supervisor/institution and are meant to contribute to living costs. Project running costs will be funded by the supervisor/institution
  • Assessment criteria: (1) quality of the student, (2) quality of the research project and (3) supervisor and teaching environment. We will NOT be providing detailed feedback to applicants
  • Applications should be submitted for projects that have not yet commenced
  • Funding should be acknowledged in any publications (i.e. Funded by AAGBI/Anaesthesia, BJA/RCoA or OAA via the NIAA as indicated in the award letter) and a final report will be required
  • Depending on uptake, intercalaters may be asked to present their work at a meeting.

Closing date: Monday 31 March 2014
