The final details have now been confirmed for the UK Perioperative Medicine Clinical Trials Network Autumn Meeting, and you can still register your attendance. Last year's meeting was virtually standing room only so don't miss out!
Along with the presentation of major new trial proposals, plenary sessions will include:

DECIDE study
University College London is running a national survey DECIDE (DEcisions in health Care to Introduce or Diffuse innovations using Evidence), funded by the Health Foundation, to investigate the evidence decision-makers prefer to use when they are considering introducing or expanding an innovation.
The aim of the study is to improve both the production and use of evidence in decision-making. UCL are interested in asking NHS decision-makers about the kinds of evidence they prioritise when making decisions on adopting or diffusing innovations. They are also interested in the views of those involved in the decision making process.
To gather this information the research team have created a survey here, which should take around 10 minutes to complete. Taking part is voluntary, no personal details will be asked and published reports about this survey will not contain any identifiable information. If you would like to find out more and offer your views be quick as the survey closes on 30th September.
National Research Collaborative Meeting 2017
The National Research Collaborative Meeting is a pan-specialty trainee research meeting which brings together students and trainees involved in collaborative research across the UK.
This year's meeting is being held at the Crowne Plaza Hotel in Birmingham City Centre on Thursday 30th November 2017. Registration is free, with a refundable deposit. Online registration is now open here.
The organisers have aimed to build the meeting around the twin themes of 'Research Challenges' and Perioperative care, and are keen for as many anaesthetists and intensivists as possible to join with surgeons and create a truly interdisciplinary meeting.
The event's high profile faculty includes:

Abstracts can be submitted by research collaboratives to the following two categories:
Elevator pitch (ongoing data collection, or completed research project): 120 words, plus 120 character Tweet
Research MOT (research study in development): 300 word abstract

Joint RCoA/NIHR Research Awards 2017
The RCoA, in partnership with the NIHR CRN (Clinical Research Network), is awarding a second year of research prizes to recognise outstanding contributions from NHS consultants and trainees to the conduct of NIHR CRN portfolio studies.
Applicants must be NHS clinicians (clinical academics are not eligible) and must be a Member or Fellow of the RCoA. There are three categories for entry: Consultant (including SAS), Trainee (individual) and this year there is a Trainee Research Network category. Each award carries a £1,000 prize.
To apply there is a short form to complete and the deadline is Friday 3rd November 2017.
The awards will be presented during an RCoA event in 2018. Award winners will be notified of the event date and location in advance, and complimentary places will be allocated for winners to attend.

'#RCoA25' events and photography competition
The RCoA's anniversary activities, to celebrate 25 years since gaining its Royal Charter, are continuing into the autumn with a photography competition in partnership with the Royal Photographic Society, open to all RCoA members and fellows. There are cash prizes to be won with £500 for the winner and £250 for the runner-up, plus selected entries will be displayed at the College. Entries are welcome from beginners to advanced level photographers.
The theme is In Safe Hands. Whether this is delivering anaesthetic training, working with your colleagues, or caring for patients before, during or after surgery, creative interpretations of the theme are encouraged - see the photo below for some inspiration. Information on how to enter can be found here, and the closing date has been extended to Monday 30th October 2017 so there's still plenty of time to get snapping.
