RESEARCH RECRUITMENT

NIAA 2019
POMCTN 2019 Stack

There are a number of roles currently being recruited for various positions within the NIAA & POMCTN:

NIAA Trainee Representatives (x2)
We are recruiting two Trainee Representatives, who will be co-opted members of the NIAA Research Council, and will be involved in representing the interests of trainees involved in research or academic training. Trainees who hold a National Training Number in Anaesthesia, and are either Academic Clinical Fellows, Academic Clinical Lecturers or are undertaking/have completed an MD(Res) or PhD are encouraged to apply.

The appointments are for three years or until CCT in the first instance, with the potential for re-appointment for a further one year term following review. Trainees will need to have at least two years left prior to CCT upon starting the role.

If this is you or someone you know, find out more details and how to apply here.

POMCTN Deputy Director
Following the recruitment of Dr Joyce Yeung as the Network's Director, the POMCTN is now recruiting a new Deputy Director to take up post in 2022. The role is to support the Director in delivering all aspects of the Network's activities, including the successful delivery of all Network-led clinical trials, working closely with Chief Investigators to ensure that trials are well supported, as well as leading and developing the strategy of the Network. The vacancy is open for applications until December, and applicants are encouraged to contact the CTN to discuss the role informally with Dr Yeung.

Find out more details and how to apply here.

POMCTN Chief Investigator Scheme 2022
The CTN is also recruiting a new cohort of researchers who wish to lead their own clinical trials in perioperative medicine to enrol onto the training and mentorship scheme in 2022. Applicants must be members of the POMCTN Local or Principal Investigator scheme before they apply, with a proven track record of recruitment to clinical trials.

NIAA Research Award 2021

As we start to return to normality following the peak of the COVID-19 pandemic, the NIAA is pleased to resume our Research Award for new investigators that have completed a 'body of work', which is open for applications until Monday 27 September 2021.

Applications will be reviewed by a panel of judges convened by the NIAA, and should be submitted as a summary of the applicant's research project/'body of work'. The judges will select a shortlist of applicants who will be invited to record a 10-minute presentation and will be included on the programme for Anaesthesia Research 2021. The overall winner will receive a £500 prize.

The Royal College of Anaesthetists (RCoA) in conjunction with the National Institute for Health Research (NIHR) Clinical Research Network (CRN) have resumed three awards for research.

The awards are designed to recognise NHS clinicians (consultants and anaesthetists in training) who are making outstanding contributions to clinical research, particularly in relation to NIHR CRN portfolio research studies.

Applicants must be NHS clinicians (clinical academics are not eligible) and must be a fellow or member of the College. Clinicians can enter under one of three categories:

  • consultant (including SAS doctors)
  • anaesthetist in training (individual)
  • anaesthetist in training (network)

Each award carries a £1,000 prize and the awards are designed to recognise clinicians who engage in academic research alongside their clinical work, would not be typically 'research active' and may be in the early stages of their research career.

Full details including application form are available here.
